Partner channel FAQ
Everything B2B SaaS teams ask about partners.
Straight answers, with the numbers behind them. Updated September 2026.
What is a channel partner?
A channel partner is a company that sells, recommends or implements your product to its own clients, in exchange for a commission, a margin or services revenue.
For B2B SaaS, the most common channel partners are agencies, consultants, resellers, system integrators and managed service providers (MSPs). They already have the trust of your buyers, which is why their introductions convert better than cold outreach.
What is a partner program?
A partner program is the set of rules and resources a company offers to the firms that sell or refer its product: who can join, what they earn, what they get to sell with, and how deals are tracked.
A good SaaS partner program covers four things: a clear partner profile, a commission or margin, enablement (pitch assets, training) and tracking with on-time payouts.
What is the difference between an affiliate, a referral partner and a reseller?
An affiliate shares a link and earns a commission, a referral partner introduces warm leads you close, and a reseller buys your product and sells it under its own contract.
Affiliates bring volume with little involvement. Referral partners (consultants, agencies) bring fewer but warmer deals. Resellers own the billing and the customer relationship, and earn a margin on the price.
What is the difference between a channel partner and a distributor?
A distributor buys in bulk and supplies resellers, while a channel partner sells or recommends your product directly to end customers.
Most B2B SaaS companies under $20M ARR work with channel partners directly. Distributors matter mostly in hardware, cybersecurity and large IT catalogs.
How do I start a B2B partner program?
Start with your ideal partner profile, not with a tool: define who already serves your customers, what they earn, and what you give them to sell with. Then recruit 20 to 30 well-fitted partners before opening the program wider.
The usual order: 1) ideal partner profile, 2) commission or margin, 3) a one-pager and a pitch per partner type, 4) tracking and payouts (PartnerStack, Rewardful), 5) a monthly activation rhythm.
What commission should a SaaS partner program pay?
The average SaaS affiliate commission is 24.16%, according to Rewardful's 2026 benchmark of 2,847 programs.
Referral partners who bring qualified deals often get more than affiliates, and resellers get a margin on your list price instead of a commission. Recurring commissions keep partners interested beyond the first sale.

How many partners do I need?
Fewer than you think: 71% of partner revenue comes from the top 10% of partners, so 20 well-chosen, active partners beat 500 sign-ups.
56% of SaaS affiliate programs have fewer than 50 affiliates. The goal is not a big program, it is a small number of partners who sell every month.

How do I find channel partners for my SaaS?
List the firms your best customers already pay for advice and services, then score them on fit: same buyers, complementary offer, and a history of recommending software.
Sources: partner directories (HubSpot, Salesforce AppExchange), agency case studies, LinkedIn, and the logos on your customers' vendor pages. Scoutner does this from your website URL and returns a scored list with decision-makers.
How does the channel partner recruitment process work?
It runs in six steps: define the ideal partner profile, map candidates, score them, pitch each one, onboard the ones who sign, and activate them every month.
Most programs skip scoring and activation. That is why 92% of affiliates never send a referral: the wrong partners were recruited, then left alone.
How do I pitch a potential partner?
Lead with their revenue, not your product: show what they can earn from their own client base, and give them assets ready to forward.
A strong partner pitch has a co-branded one-pager, an earnings estimate for their clients, their own referral page, and 3 to 4 short emails. Generic "want to partner with us?" emails get few replies.
Why do most affiliates never make a sale?
Because they were never the right fit, or nobody fed them after they signed: only 7.6% of affiliates send a referral and 1.28% generate a sale.
Partners sell when they get a reason each month: a campaign to forward, a list of their clients to pitch, a nudge when they go quiet.

How do I improve channel partner engagement?
Give partners something to do every month: a co-branded campaign, a short list of their own clients who fit, and a check-in when activity drops.
Pay on time, share wins publicly, and remove partners who stay inactive for two quarters so your effort goes to the ones who sell.
How do I measure partner program ROI?
Divide partner-sourced revenue by the full cost of the program: tools, commissions and the time of the people running it.
Track the funnel month by month: contacted, meetings, signed, active, revenue. The two numbers that matter most are the share of signed partners who are active, and the time to their first deal.
Is Scoutner a replacement for PartnerStack or Rewardful?
No. PartnerStack and Rewardful track referrals and pay commissions; Scoutner finds, pitches and activates the partners, then syncs with your tracking tool.
Most customers keep their tracking tool and add Scoutner to fill it with partners who sell.
Who sends the emails, and who owns the relationships?
You do. Scout writes and schedules the emails, but they go out from your own inbox, so every partner relationship and your sender reputation stay yours.
How long before the first partner meetings?
Your first scored list takes about 10 minutes. Sequences go out the same day, so first replies usually arrive within two weeks.
